It comes with a configurable interface, advanced video/audio options and media streaming with VLC acting as a server to stream media as well as receive.
VLC began as an academic project in 1996 and was developed to stream videos over the university campus.
VLC which stands for Video-LAN Client was later re-developed to be an all-in-one media player and is worked on by volunteer developers worldwide. Work began to rewrite VLC in 1998 and there were several beta releases before the official release of version 1.0.0 in 2009
